Our sweet little Kendall is growing up so quickly! It's funny to watch her learn new things every day………..especially now that she is really discovering her "boundaries". Most of you who spend a lot of time with us understand that Kendall has a rather extensive vocabulary for a 14 month old and everyday she is saying new things.
She dropped her pumpkin the other day & I swear I thought she said "damn it!".
So now we are putting two words together like "Thank You" or "Bye Daddy" or "No Maggie" but more recently…….. "Good Girl".
I understand the meaning of the words Good Girl to be – "A Girl who is Good"
Somewhere the definition of this particular phrase she been mistranslated to my Daughter.
This morning I was getting ready for work. Kendall has some strange fascination with our bathrooms……the toilets to be more specific. I stepped out of the bathroom for only a few moments….I spy on Kendall as she is dancing to The Wiggles. I know in the back of my mind she is waiting for me to make my move. I step into the bedroom to slip on my clothes & suddenly I hear her little mischievous giggle (the one where she knows it's wrong but continues to do it anyway & can't stop laughing because it's so much fun to be bad!). So I rush into the bathroom to find Kendall…..once AGAIN…… splashing a toy (luckily not my phone)…… armpit deep in toilet water! When she sees me her laughter becomes louder & no longer disguised…….. the splashes become tsunami like. **There was actually a brief moment that I thought I may have given birth to Ursula from Disney's The Little Mermaid** . So I snatch her up kicking & STILL giggling as I wash her up in the sink. I'm telling Kendall NO in my firm Mommy Voice and then she turns to me so sweetly, looks into my eyes & says "Good Girl". I try to reason with her & tell her only Bad Girls & Boys play in the toilets……all along she continues to babble "Good Girl".
Fast forward………..30 minutes
I'm getting ready to walk out the door & I swoop Kendall up for a good bye kiss. She babbles with me for a few minutes telling me "Bye-Bye" & "Go". Suddenly she poked me it the eye & said "Eye"….I didn't even SEE it coming!!!! Now remember these are the same little fingers that were just playing in the toilet. My eyeis now starting to water & I grab a tissue …….she starts frantically YELLING, "GOOD GIRL, GOOD GIRL". I believe she knew she hurt me & really felt bad about it. So I kiss her some more & tell her Yes, Good Girl & she gave me a hug. It was really sweet!
I think we're going to start working on "Keeping your poky fingers to yourself"……or "Where's Daddy's Eye".........possibly "Sorry" Those sound like fun to me!
